REINVNTD CIC is dedicated to addressing the environmental and cultural challenges of fast fashion. Our mission is to educate on the impacts of textile waste and throwaway culture, while offering sustainable fashion solutions through upcycling, bespoke tailoring, and community engagement.

It’s been another busy week for us at @reinvntd_official!

This week we were invited to speak to a group of students about sustainable fashion! Students learnt about the environmental impact of their clothes and what simple, everyday sustainable fashion habits we can adopt to minimise our impact. 💡♻️

Students even got hands-on with upcycling, transforming their old t-shirts into tote bags! 👕✂️🛍

Part 1: Upcycling old curtains into something wearable… but first we clean! 🧼

Have fabric that is dry clean only? How about cleaning with vodka instead? Did you know vodka is a natural deodoriser that breaks down odour causing bacteria and bad smells? Costume designers swear by it! ✨

Here’s how:
💦 mix vodka and water in a spray bottle (use pure vodka for silk & wool).
🌀 turn the garment inside out and mist generously, focus on odour-probe areas.
⏳ let it air dry - no rinsing needed!

On Wednesday our Founder & Director, @themayap was invited to be a panel speaker alongside four incredible women on the Women’s Masterclass Panel at @access2business’ International Women’s Day event 💜

The discussions were inspiring and thought-provoking; covering barriers in business, the journey to entrepreneurship, challenges as female entrepreneurs, the role of business support, and the unique strengths women bring to the business world.

@reinvntd_official was only born a year ago, so to be recognised for the work we’re doing to champion sustainability and fashion is already incredible!

Some feedback we received this week from the workshop we delivered to Year 6 students as part of British Science Week! 🌱🥼🔬

We explored the impact of fashion on the environment and discussed how small changes in our everyday choices can make a big difference. The students were engaged and creative, especially during the hands-on upcycling activity where they transformed old tins 🥫into funky stationary pots! ♻️🖌️

It’s amazing to see young minds so enthusiastic about sustainability and making positive changes for our planet. 🌎

Like I said in my talk, fashion should make you do 3 things:
1. Make you look good 🔥
2. Make you feel good ❤️
3. Make you do good for the planet 🌍

This weekend, we celebrated International Day of Women & Girls in Science (officially 11th Feb) at the @thinktankmuseum Science Museum in Birmingham 🥼

Our Founder & Director, @themayap, gave an inspiring talk on sustainable fashion choices – ‘Fast to Last’, sharing ways to make more fashion conscious decisions 🎤👚🗑️🛍️

We also hosted a sustainable fashion, patchwork workshop, where youngsters had a go at stitching patches onto a community quilt using fabric offcuts, old clothes and second-hand materials ♻️🪡 we saw a few young kids picking up a needle & thread for the first time and shortly after a few stitches, they said they loved it and wanted to go home and start sewing 🥹 (mission 1 accomplished 🏆)

But what does fashion have to do with STEM? More than you might think! The fashion industry is the second-largest polluter in the world after oil & gas, making sustainability a crucial scientific challenge! 🚨

Fashion is deeply connected to climate change, material innovation, and environmental science, all of which fall under STEM. From developing eco-friendly textiles to designing circular fashion solutions, science and innovation are shaping the future of fashion 🌎🌱

So thank you to everyone who joined us for a day of learning, creativity, and inspiring conversations! And thank you to @thinktankmuseum @millenniumpoint for welcoming us 💚

This weekend we hosted a super fun sewing party! 🎉 With the chilly weather outside, this was a great indoor activity to keep kids entertained and creative 🧵

We introduced the kids to the joy of sewing - a skill that’s often considered old-fashioned, “something grandma does”, but it can be so creative and rewarding. ✨ The kids used leftover materials and upcycled their own keyrings, perfect for school bags!

I had the pleasure of teaching students about sustainable fashion and the journey of starting their own small business.

Together, we explored:

🌍 The importance of sustainability.
♻️ The concept of circular fashion economy.
💡 Practical solutions.
🥫 A hands-on activity where students upcycled an old empty can into products they can sell.
🛍️ Marketing strategies and selling to different customers.

Our very first sustainable fashion, sewing workshop for kids took place over the weekend and it was a huge success! 🙏🏽✨

Thank you to everyone for braving the wind, rain and cold to come out and learn about sustainable clothes and make your very own Christmas jumper! 🎄🎅🏼🦌

We had kids of all abilities, some who’ve done sewing before, and others who hadn’t even threaded a needle. We saw some great creative, out of the box thinking too with reindeer antlers being used as a scarf 🧣 and even a moustache! 🥸
