The UK has passed a Green Textile Act, curbing overseas garment shipping. Textile production moves closer to home. Less waste, shorter supply chains, and a boost for local economies and innovation.

2️⃣ Micro Fashion Studios
Designers and robots work side-by-side in small-scale studios, using locally grown fibers. The climate crisis limits global transport, so fashion is made to be repaired, reused, and recycled.

3️⃣ The Remake Revolution
With countries refusing to accept fashion waste, the UK launches localised remake/retake schemes. Migrant communities play a central role in reshaping sustainable fashion from the ground up.

We were invited to @dudley_college last weekend for their ‘Pre-loved fashion’ community event. It’s great to see educational institutions highlight the need to do more for sustainability ♻️

We had a great time chatting to students, local residents and fellow stall holders selling preloved clothing.

We held a sewing station where passers by could sew a button onto a community tree, for some it was their first time sewing and they loved it! We also held an embroidery workshop where participants used the Japanese technique of Sashiko to sew their very own fabric bookmark from preloved fabric scraps!

Our founder gave a talk, ‘Rethink Your Relationship with Fashion’, which led to some powerful conversations about the fashion industry as a whole and how possible change really is!

This week we had the absolute pleasure of visiting Oak Cottage Primary School in Solihull as part of Careers Week, in collaboration with STEM Ambassadors. 🤩

Our Founder, Maya, spoke to a fantastic group of young minds about sustainable fashion and the work we do at Reinvntd CIC. The presentation, titled “Fashion That’s Kind to the Planet”, got students thinking about how their clothing choices and shopping habits impact the Earth. 👩🏽‍🏫

We explored ideas around reuse, sharing, and reducing waste, and I loved hearing about what they do to be kinder to the Earth 🌍

It’s been another busy week for us at @reinvntd_official!

Part 1: Upcycling old curtains into something wearable… but first we clean! 🧼

Have fabric that is dry clean only? How about cleaning with vodka instead? Did you know vodka is a natural deodoriser that breaks down odour causing bacteria and bad smells? Costume designers swear by it! ✨

Here’s how:
💦 mix vodka and water in a spray bottle (use pure vodka for silk & wool).
🌀 turn the garment inside out and mist generously, focus on odour-probe areas.
⏳ let it air dry - no rinsing needed!

This weekend, we celebrated International Day of Women & Girls in Science (officially 11th Feb) at the @thinktankmuseum Science Museum in Birmingham 🥼

Our Founder & Director, @themayap, gave an inspiring talk on sustainable fashion choices – ‘Fast to Last’, sharing ways to make more fashion conscious decisions 🎤👚🗑️🛍️

We also hosted a sustainable fashion, patchwork workshop, where youngsters had a go at stitching patches onto a community quilt using fabric offcuts, old clothes and second-hand materials ♻️🪡 we saw a few young kids picking up a needle & thread for the first time and shortly after a few stitches, they said they loved it and wanted to go home and start sewing 🥹 (mission 1 accomplished 🏆)

But what does fashion have to do with STEM? More than you might think! The fashion industry is the second-largest polluter in the world after oil & gas, making sustainability a crucial scientific challenge! 🚨

Fashion is deeply connected to climate change, material innovation, and environmental science, all of which fall under STEM. From developing eco-friendly textiles to designing circular fashion solutions, science and innovation are shaping the future of fashion 🌎🌱

These denim jeans had been sitting unworn in my wardrobe for years, collecting dust. They still fit perfectly, but the style felt outdated, and the fabric had discolored over time.

Not wanting to throw them out I decided to give them a new life. Using material from a stunning floral dress I picked up at a swap shop, I transformed the jeans into a unique, one-of-a-kind pair! 👖 💙
